Arts
Appreciation
Alys
Stephens Arts Mentoring
Program - The Alys
Stephens Center has developed an Arts Mentoring Program to
introduce middle school students to the arts. Local artists and
arts educators will serve as volunteer mentors and will be paired
with students to attend specific performances throughout the Alys
Stephens Center’s 2006-2007 Season. Students will participate
in facilitated group discussions (“Talk Backs”) immediately
following each performance, and on occasion will have the chance to
meet the guest artists. This unique arts learning experience is
designed to create a safe environment in which to discuss and share
ideas, values, and feelings, which the arts stir, and to encourage
leadership and critical thinking. In addition, the group
discussions enable students to interact with professionals in the
field. This year-long program will culminate in a final event for
participants, parents, and mentors. For more information, call
934-0862.

YOUTH PROGRAMS
18th Century Alive!
Junior Interpreter Program
Only 25 students in middle and high school (grades 6 through 12)
are chosen each year for this program available to students
interested in fine arts performance and history. During the summer,

visitors in customs and times of the 18th Century by participating
in puppet shows, colonial games, and various historical
vignettes.
Program Dates: Training is
set by the Coordinator and is usually the last of May and the first
week or two in June, for which attendance is mandatory.
Participants must commit to a minimum of two days per week over the
summer.
Fee: No fee; purchase of 18th Century costume
required.
