We will do
signups by six-week sessions. For the first six-week time
frame, we will start with three weeks of East Coast Swing followed
by three weeks of Fox Trot. Swing is the most fun, especially
for young folks, and Fox Trot is the most common style of dance,
that everyone ought to know.
The cost is $30 for the six-week session per student for the first
two students in a family. If there are additional children in
the same family taking the class, they may attend for no charge;
$60 will be the cap for student cost in any family. *The
class will be available for 7th - 12th graders. Parents are
welcome to join in the class if they would like. Their cost
would be $30 per person.
*The initial dances we will cover are Swing, Fox Trot, Waltz, Rumba
and Cha Cha. We work on one dance for about a month at a
time, so the kids will feel fairly proficient in it by the end of
the month. If the class wants to expand into other dances, we
can cover Samba, Tango, Mambo, Polka & Schottische. Plus
we always throw some line dances into the classes, as well.
*We generally throw an End-of-Year Dance for all the homeschool
kids in the Spring every year, combining all of our classes.
Sometimes, we opt to have a couple of "field trips" instead, where
we will bring one class at a time to either Concordia Club (our
private dance club) on a Saturday night downtown, or to a regularly
scheduled Birmingham Ballroom Dancers Association (BBDA) dance in
Homewood on a Sunday afternoon. We work with the clubs to get
a discounted rate for our students and bring them (and any parents
who wish to come) out for an evening of dancing in a "real world"
setting.
